Auld Acquaintance(s)

‘Tis the season to think of old friends. Which means long-serving, though we’re all in our 60s now. Which I know is no longer middle-aged, but to me is hardly elderly. Of course, I’m biased.

I’m writing this whilst I wait for two potential calls from overseas: one from my sister, the other from my old friend E.

My sister usually calls Sunday evenings, but we last spoke Christmas Day, so she may not ring, As for my friend, I spoke to her voicemail a few hours ago.

I also talked to my old friend L. at Christmas, and my friend Sue on Boxing Day. It helps, a lot, that I have a Skype account, as calls to America are really cheap.

This is not what I look like when I ring on Skype.

This blog went on to pause as I took a call from my sister. Still no word from E. though when I tried her again the call went almost straight to voicemail, so perhaps she’s on the phone.

Is it worth it, trying to get back in touch with someone you haven’t spoken to for years?

Only one way to find out.
